My nurse called in all my prescriptions to a mail order pharmacy today, so they called me this evening to verify and collect payment. Apparently she ordered everything she possibly could! Including all the progesterone suppositories for the first trimester for if the cycle is successful, and enough estrogen patches to wear all through my first trimester of pregnancy! Optomistic much? haha!
At first I told the pharmicist that we would be paying for all of the meds out of pocket, because our insurance only covers fertility testing, not treatment. If they get a hint that we're using it for treatment, they immediately stop covering testing. (lovely, right?) So we have been very careful with what we pay out of pocket for, and what we send through insurance. That is why we paid out of pocket for the whole FET before hand.
Well she got through all the prescriptions, and said "That will be $880". I stopped breathing for a split second....:) I had been expecting less than that, but figured it was because she added the first trimester meds as well, and figured I'd have to make it work! So I gave her our debit card number and hung up!
Then I got to thinking... what if the insurance company got this claim for meds? It's from a regular mail order pharmacy. The prescriptions are for Z-Pac, baby asprin, prenatal vitamin, estrogen patches, progesterone shots, and progesterone suppositories. None of thoes are actual fertility drugs! Chad helped convince me to call back just to see what insurance would do.
Thankfully, I called back, even though I was embarassed...and asked her to see if insurance would cover it. It turned out that it covered everything, leaving us with co-pays for everything! There was one that needed prior authorization, but it was one that I won't need until after a positive pregnancy test, so I have time to get that! So after sending it through insurance, our total went from $880 to $215! Never have I been more grateful for my job and insurance!! (Plus, it's a bonus that I love my job anyway...:) )
So that was our blessing of the day! Now we keep praying that they don't now think I am pregnant and forgot to tell them! eek!
